Andy's Bio
Andy Castellanos (born Andres Castellanos) is a well-rounded professional dancer who has toured the globe as a principal dancer in one of the most famous and sought-after Latin dance companies in the world, Salsabor Y Cache (SYC) directed by world-renowned salsa dance phenom, Rogelio Moreno. Andy was one of the original members of this dance company, being the first line of "talent" selected by Rogelio for SYC.
During his extended contract with SYC, he performed alongside Rogelio as a principal dancer at performances on various continents. Also, when the director was unavailable to perform with the company, Andy was always assigned the director's lead role in the front of the company, performing solos and leading the group in shows.
In 2004, he was invited to perform in the Grammy awards for legend Celia Cruz. With SYC, Andy has toured, performed, and assisted with dance workshops in
Through SYC, Andy was consistently one of the few salsa performers in the world who were invited to headline the prestigious World Salsa Congress in Puerto Rico - year after year.
For more than six years, Andy has been one of the most talented, yet humble dancers in the ultra-competitive Los Angeles salsa scene.
In 2005, Andy resigned from SYC, leaving the intensive practice and performance schedule behind, in order to grow his family (babies!). He and his wife, Wendy, decided to build their own family-oriented academy - a company that would take the name "SalsaStar" and serve primarily Jackson County, Oklahoma, in addition to surrounding states. After a car accident, the plans were delayed and SalsaStar was moved to Costa Rica, where their second daughter was born.
As a dancer, Andy has a new partnership with his wife, Wendy, and they will continue to perform in the international Latin dance scene and teach dance workshops together.
A safety certified coach and a professional dancer, Andy brings unique talents in choreography, dance technique, timing, spotting, costume design, stage design, event production, and music selection/design to SalsaStar's programs.
